Superintendent Search: Survey for Families and Students
As we begin the search for our next superintendent, the CHCCS Board of Education wants to hear from you! Please complete this family/student/community survey about the qualities and characteristics you believe will be most important in the next leader of CHCCS.
- If you are also a CHCCS staff member, you should have received another survey designed just for staff. It is OK for you to submit both surveys!
- All surveys close on Monday, April 7 - the day CHCCS returns from Spring Break.

Applicant Information
CHCCS is excited to begin the search for our next Superintendent! With more than 11,000 students and 2,000 staff, CHCCS is considered one of the best public school districts in North Carolina. The district consistently ranks at the top of the state in terms of student test scores and other academic performances. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro community also receives accolades for being a top place to live and work.
CHCCS is working with the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) to conduct the search. The Board plans to name the next Superintendent in June 2025.
- Who should apply: Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be licensed as a superintendent in North Carolina or otherwise be qualified and eligible to serve under State Board of Education policy.
- Central office and building-level experience is preferred. A doctorate degree or progress toward a doctorate degree is preferred but not required.

- Later this month, CHCCS will share a link to an online survey so you can help guide the Board in determining what qualities and experiences are most important in the next superintendent.
Search Process: General Timeline (subject to change)
- The application deadline is April 14.
- April 2025: The Board will review applications
- May 2025: Initial interviews. Finalists selected
- June 2025: Announcement and introduction of superintendent
- July 2025: Employment to begin
