NC Symphony "Adopts" CHHS and Carrboro HS

"We are thrilled to share that two of our CHCCS orchestra directors, Casey Spillman and Corrie Franklin, were chosen to work with the NC Symphony’s new Adopt-a-School program," said Dr. Brenda Whiteman, district arts coordinator.

The schools were chosen from a state-wide pool of almost 100 applicants.  Only 17 high school programs were chosen to participate.  This innovative new program pairs master musicians from the NC Symphony with school music programs.  The musicians will collaborate with the orchestra directors to tailor meaningful programming and to work directly with our strings students from January - May 2021.

Kurt Tseng, viola, will work with Casey Spillman, Director of Instrumental Music at Carrboro High School.  Kurt is the Associate Principal violist with the NC Symphony, and holds the Betty Ellen Madry Chair.  Craig Brown, double bass, will work with Corrie Franklin, Orchestra Director at Chapel Hill High School and Culbreth Middle School.   Craig is the Mark W. McClure Foundation Chair with the NC Symphony.  He also serves on the faculty at Brevard Music Center and UNCG Greensboro.
