Former Gecko Makes Masks for Morris Grove Teachers
Natalie Fitzhugh joined the National Junior Honor Society at McDougle Middle School last summer, after the end of her sixth grade year. As she considered options for fulfilling the membership requirement of community service, her thoughts turned to her former teachers at Morris Grove Elementary School.

MES Students Perform Acts of Service for MLK Day
As Fifth Grade Teacher, Morgan Hunt, announced, “McDougle Elementary students have been very busy trying to make their mark on the world!” Students from the fifth grade classrooms of Hunt and Katy Cobb, at McDougle Elementary School, participated in the National Day of Service on January 18th, in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

OEI Offers Coffee and Equity
On the morning of January 20, Inauguration Day, the Office of Equity and Inclusion hosted two sessions of their series, Coffee and Equity, with 40 CHCCS staff attending. The representation from across the district was broad and diverse, ensuring a mix of observations and experiences.

Find Answers to Your CDM Questions
Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM), is a highly rigorous testing process for achieving high school course credit without completing the course through “seat time” and assignments. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction implemented this policy in 2014 following suit with other states across the nation. The purpose is to give uniquely qualified students who possess mastery knowledge of content the ability to personalize their learning.

ECHHS Musician Honored Nationally
East Chapel Hill High School (ECHHS) senior, Megan Talikoff, has been selected to play clarinet with the National Association for Music Educators All National Honors Orchestra. Talikoff is the first ever student from ECHHS to be selected to an All-National Honors Ensemble and is one of only four student clarinetists selected from across the United States to perform in this ensemble.

Northside Fifth Graders Host Author Kwame Mbalia
Author Kwame Mbalia visited Northside Elementary School (NES) last January to meet young Navigators and discuss the first book in his Tristan Strong series entitled Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky. Navigator Nation fell in love with the adventures of Tristan along with the dynamic characters in the book, especially Gum Baby.
