  • Carrboro High School Students Explore Local History

    Civics students in Jamie Fernandez-Schendt’s classes at Carrboro High School have spent much of September analyzing the topic “Citizenship and the American Identity.” The unit included two workshops led by staff from the Marian Cheek Jackson Center, a non-profit hub of activism on Rosemary Street, dedicated to preserving the future of historically black neighborhoods in Chapel Hill.

  • Attendance Awareness Highlighted in September

    The goal seems so obvious. Improving school attendance improves student success and decreases achievement gaps. Yet chronic absenteeism is a problem nationwide, with as many as one out of seven students missing school two or more days each month, or 10 percent of the school year.

  • CHCCS Announces 33 National Merit Semifinalists for 2020

    Earlier this month, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools students earned 33 of those awards, representing Carrboro High School, Chapel Hill High School and East Chapel Hill High School.
