  • Eugenia Floyd Named 2020-21 Regional Teacher of the Year

    Eugenia Floyd, fourth grade teacher at Scroggs Elementary School, and 2020-21 Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Teacher of the Year, has been named one of nine North Carolina Regional Teachers of the Year. She will advance to the competition for 2021 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year.

  • Girls on the Run Keep on Running

    Creativity, innovation and flexibility were all necessary ingredients to complete a virtual Girls on the Run season during a pandemic, and three CHCCS elementary schools undertook the challenge this fall -- Glenwood Elementary School, Morris Grove Elementary School and Ephesus Elementary School. Each team of girls and coaches took different approaches, but they all reached points of triumph and increased confidence as their seasons wound down.

  • Glenwood Elementary Arts Residencies Continue Virtually

    One of the oldest continuously operating schools in the district, Glenwood Elementary, is in the process of transitioning to become Glenwood STEAM2 Magnet. That transition has not been celebrated with fanfare yet, because the events originally planned in March were cancelled after the pandemic hit. But the embrace of deeper and more diverse arts experiences has continued, even as this year’s instruction has been held as remote learning.

  • 2020 EC Educator of Excellence Announced

    Each year, the N.C. Department of Public Instruction’s Exceptional Children Division honors an “Exceptional Children (EC) Educator of Excellence,” and the 2020 award for CHCCS goes to Ashley Hudson, speech-language pathologist (SLP).

  • Board Elects New Chair and Vice Chair

    At its December 3 Special Call Meeting, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education elected Dr. Jillian La Serna as its new chair, and Deon Temne as vice chair.
