Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools strives to create experiences that empower, inspire and engage all learners in every classroom, every day. As students become problem solvers and problem seekers, they collaborate with teachers, peers, and community members to achieve common goals. Students co-design their learning experiences, embedding their unique interests and passions within a standards-based curriculum. Access to digital devices integrates technology in order to increase critical thinking, enhance communication skills, and create personalized pathways of learning for every student.
The Instructional Technology & Media programs are committed to ensuring that students are prepared to navigate our technology and media-rich world now and into their future. Playing an increasingly significant role in the learning process, technology and media can no longer be thought of as an add-on content area, but as an integral component of all content areas throughout the curriculum. Our students engage with the use of technology within a blended learning environment where the use of digital tools and strategies are intentionally planned and balanced with face-to-face and print-based opportunities and resources.
Quick Facts about the CHCCS Digital Learning and Library Program

- Our CHCCS school libraries collectively circulate an average of 38,000 books and other resources each month (based on data from October 2019).
- All Kindergarten through 2nd grade students have access to iPads or Chromebooks to use at school.
- Each 3rd through 5th grade student has access to an assigned Chromebook to use at school.
- Each 6th through 12th grade student has access to an assigned Chromebook to use at school and home.
- Every teacher, instructional support staff member, and administrator are required to engage in 20 hours of professional learning every 5 years focusing on the North Carolina Digital Learning Compentencies.
- Students and teachers have access to several district or state provided digital resources to use within instruction.
