The Martin Luther King, Jr. Edith Wiggins Scholarship is a need-based scholarship that promotes the advancement of higher education and helps to alleviate the burden of financing a college education. Each year, the scholarship committee awards a minimum of $1,500 in scholarships to approximately ten (10) graduating seniors who have demonstrated financial need, a commitment to community involvement and improvement through their civic, educational and religious activities. The Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Epsilon Gamma Chapter (Chapel Hill, NC) is offering an opportunity for a deserving African-American male high school senior to receive a $2,500.00 college scholarship. Click here for the application.

The Sponsor-A-Scholar fund is raised from hundreds of donors in our community. Scholars can use their $500 Sponsor A Scholar award for any post-secondary expense. The Haidt Scholars Fund is based on a generous gift from the Haidt Family Foundation. Mr. Harold Haidt was the original person to envision using scholarships as an incentive for scholars in BRMA. Scholars are only eligible for Haidt funding if they are enrolled in a bachelor’s degree-seeking program. Scholars are eligible to receive Haidt Scholars funding of $600 for up to four years.

The RISE NOW Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to access educational opportunities for males of color beyond high school. For many people of color, especially males, the systemic inequities have lasted for many decades, adversely impacting their economic and social opportunities and their ability to prosper in our society. This scholarship is created for males who have participated in the Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate program, Blue Ribbon Youth Leadership Institute, or the Multicultural Student Achievement Network (MSAN), to support their post-secondary education so they may soar and RISE to their fullest potential. Scholars should have a 2.3 GPA requirement, demonstrate participation in one of the programs listed above, engage in local community service-learning activities, and serve in a school or civic organization. NOW Church in Chapel Hill funds this scholarship.

Nathaniel “Big Nate” and his wife Peggy Davis are pillars in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community, serving as social, political, and community activists. They have dedicated their lives to community building, enriching the lives of families.  They have lived unselfish lives and provided support and opportunities to families in need and connected them to needed resources. They are both servant leaders who value education and this scholarship honors their commitment to uplifting Blue Ribbon scholars as they continue their post-secondary dreams. 

This scholarship was created by Pastor Nate Davis and his family to honor his parents.

The scholarship was established in 2017 as a memorial tribute to Caroline Lindsay for her lifelong dedication to civil rights, especially those of children and women. She was a BRMA mentor. Students can apply for this $500 scholarship by completing a scholarship form.
