Programs for Middle School Scholars

Middle school is a time of tremendous growth, and at Blue Ribbon, we’re here to support scholars every step of the way. Our programs for students in grades 6–8 are designed to nurture leadership, boost confidence, and celebrate each scholar’s unique identity. Through Readers & Leaders (for 4th - to 6th-graders), BluePrint (for 7th- and 8th-graders), and Seeking the Self (open to all middle schoolers), students explore literacy, self-expression, and leadership in affirming and engaging environments. These programs not only help students thrive academically and socially—they also give them the tools to build a strong foundation for high school and beyond.

Community service projects

Leadership meetings once a month
Development of public speaking skills
Exposure to CTE (Career and Technical Education) opportunities
Opportunities to travel during Spring Break

Program Information

Readers and Leaders Book Club (Grades 4-6)

Readers & Leaders is an early literacy initiative designed to spark a love of reading in 4th–6th grade students through mentorship, discussion, and creativity. Scholars read age-appropriate books—often alongside a mentor—and participate in Book Club meetings where they explore each chapter through group discussion and arts-based activities that deepen comprehension and engagement. Whether a student is already matched with a mentor or still waiting to be paired, they’re welcome to join. This program is a cornerstone of Blue Ribbon’s commitment to improving literacy outcomes in fun, affirming ways—and it’s open to any CHCCS family interested in helping their child build a strong reading foundation.

BluePrint (Grades 7-8)

BluePrint is a leadership and enrichment program designed for 7th and 8th grade students who are ready to strengthen their voice, build community, and grow as changemakers. Through monthly in-school meetings, scholars explore social justice and character development while developing practical leadership skills. Activities may include hands-on projects, team-building, and guest speakers. BluePrint also offers opportunities to participate in weekend service projects, enrichment field trips and college tours throughout the year. Whether your student is new to leadership or looking to deepen their impact, BluePrint helps middle schoolers lead with confidence, curiosity, and purpose.

Seeking the Self (Grades 6-8)

Seeking the Self is an arts-based enrichment program we offer on weekends that helps middle school scholars build positive self-image through creative expression. Open to all 6th–8th grade students, the program uses visual art, poetry, and storytelling to help scholars reflect on their experiences and create powerful counter-narratives. Led by local artists, sessions are designed to encourage self-awareness, critical thinking, and community connection. Seeking the Self is a space for scholars to be seen, heard, and celebrated—just as they are.
