NC Public School Attendance Requirement
CHCCS follows the North Carolina public school attendance requirement for high school & middle school student-athletes
- To remain eligible for sports, student-athletes must be present for at least 85% of the total instructional days in the previous semester. (For Fall 2025, this means the student must have attended 85% of the instructional days in Spring 2025).
- 85% means the student cannot have more than 13 unexcused absences in a semester. This is a change from 2024-25, which included both excused and unexcused absences in the total count.
- For full details, please visit this information from the North Carolina State Board of Education.
- NCDPI rationale: To encourage high school attendance and ensure that student-athletes prioritize their academic commitments.
The link to the State Board of Education Athletic Eligibility Rules, which must be followed by NCHSAA member schools, is posted multiple places on the NCHSAA website: North Carolina Department of Public Instruction – Interscholastic Athletics. These rules are part of the NCHSAA Handbook as well as OPAC handbook.
