  • "Best Communities in Music Education" Recognizes CHCCS District

    Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools was recently recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) as one of the 2019 Best Communities for Music Education in the country, one of only three districts in North Carolina to win the award. For parents, students and community members who attend the numerous CHCCS musical performances throughout the year, the honor should come as no surprise.

  • Global-Minded Middle School Students Convene for Model UN Conference

    Students from all four CHCCS middle schools gathered at Smith Middle School (SMS) and the Carolina Center for Educational Excellence (CCEE) on Friday, April 5, for the 10th annual Model UN Conference.

  • Shine Girls Spread Light Across District

    One of the gifts Benna Haas shared in her position as Academically Intellectually Gifted (AIG) specialist at Phillips Middle School (PMS) was her tireless campaign to make sure voiceless students find their voices. One of Haas’ lasting legacies is the creation and development of the Shine Girls, a group of gifted students of color at PMS.

  • McDougle Middle Hosts First TSA-STEM Expo

    Despite the fact that it was a holiday weekend, the first Technology Student Association (TSA) STEM Expo was packed with families for much of the scheduled four hours at McDougle Middle School (MMS) on Saturday, January 19. The Expo got underway at 10:00 a.m., and within an hour, the crowds enjoying the activities and vendor tables were almost at capacity. Not bad, for an inaugural event!

  • Elementary Schools Host Bring a Guest to Lunch Day

    The first Child Nutrition event of the school year, Bring a Guest to Lunch Day, has become a cherished tradition. The 11 CHCCS elementary schools all participate, with some schools hosting more than 75 parents, grandparents and other adults on the designated day.
