Thank you, Dr. Hamlett, from the Board of Education
February 4, 2025
To the staff, students and families of CHCCS,
Earlier today, you received a message from our Superintendent, Dr. Nyah Hamlett, who announced that she will be completing her service with Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, effective June 30.
On behalf of the Board of Education, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude for Dr. Hamlett’s unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership these past four years. Her commitment to our students, staff and entire school community has left a lasting, positive impact. In particular, we note that her steadfastness, attention to detail and fearlessness for taking action have truly been a benefit to all students here in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
While we are saddened to see Dr. Hamlett step aside in June, the Board is fully supportive of her decision to prioritize the well-being and success of her family, which includes three school-aged children. We are proud of the district’s achievements under her leadership, and she will always be a treasured member of the CHCCS family.
In the coming weeks, the Board will announce a process for conducting a search and selecting the next superintendent of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. Until then, we continue to work in partnership with Dr. Hamlett and her leadership team to advance our community’s school bond plans, implement the new high school scheduling model, develop our annual local budget request, provide services for immigrant families and work with our legislative delegation to increase staff salaries.
As always, thank you for your trust and support.
Sincerely,
George W. Griffin, Ph.D.
