  • Ephesus Elementary Celebrates Book "Let's Talk About Race"

    For the second year, art teacher Hannah Murphy has developed and taught a school-wide project that culminated in a new Black History Month mural at Ephesus Elementary School (EES). This year the mural ties directly with the ongoing discussions and activities planned for every classroom in the school, an exploration of the much-acclaimed book, “Let’s Talk About Race,” by Julius Lester.

  • Carrboro High School Coach Scanga Named NC Volleyball Coach of the Year

    To the many fans of Coach Steve Scanga and the women’s volleyball program at Carrboro High School (CHS), it might be hard to believe, but in 2007, their first year in existence, the Lady Jags went 3-15 for the season. Fast forward nine years, and the program was on its way to a string of 61 wins with no losses, and two consecutive state 1A/2A championships, with Scanga at the helm. No surprise then, that he was recently named the 2018 NCHSAA volleyball coach of the year.

  • CHCCS Students Excel at Learning through Languages Symposium

    On Friday, February 1, the FedEx Global Education Center on UNC campus hosted nearly 100 high school world language students from across North Carolina for the Learning through Languages Research Symposium. Ten of the 36 teams in competition came from Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, and although they didn’t sweep the awards entirely, they made a grand showing.

  • East Chapel Hill High School Hosts HBCU Fair

    The gym at East Chapel Hill High School transformed into a banner and pennant-filled college fair on Friday afternoon, January 25.The highlighted schools were Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and more than 200 students from local high schools browsed, mingled and even filled out applications on the spot.

    Eight Phoenix Academy High School seniors were celebrated and honored at their graduation ceremony at Extraordinary Ventures in Chapel Hill on February 1, 2019.
