Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools offers driver education classes to high school students through a private contractor, the Jordan Driving School of the Carolinas (JDS Carolinas).
The Driver Education classes for the FALL CLASSES will be offered virtually and registration will be online and handled by school driver education coordinators. See the driver education contacts below for coordinator information at your school. The FALL CHCCS DE Registration page is open. The class dates and times will also be listed on the CHCCS DE registration page.
The NC DMV requirements for Driver Education are:
- Students must be 14.5 yrs. Old first day of class
- Must complete the 30-hr. Classroom instruction
- Complete 6-hrs. BTW (behind the wheel) driving instruction
- Take and pass the required DMV vision check
- Maintain academic grades - passing 5 of their 7 classes
