Administrator, Kadeidra Smoots
It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce myself to you as the new Administrator of the first Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Virtual Academy. Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools has a rich and distinguished history, and I am honored to be included among its ranks. Our district carries the great responsibility of creating thriving educational environments while building student agency, advocacy, and citizenship. I am proud to partner in this great work with our district and school community. It is a privilege to serve as principal and I would like to share a little about myself as we begin our partnership to ensure students’ success.
It has been my life’s work to serve as an educator and influence the lives of students at the secondary level. I began my career as a middle school language arts and social studies teacher, and my love for helping others led me to a long and rewarding career as a school counselor. My experiences as a teacher and counselor prepared me to enter a dual leadership role as the dean of students and behavior intervention specialist. Fourteen years serving students from kindergarten to high school marked my transition to school administration. My years of experience as an assistant principal have equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and most importantly, focus on relationships that make me the leader I am today. My tenure has given me the opportunity to serve not only as assistant principal but also as interim principal. In my previous role as a high school assistant principal, I leave behind a legacy of care, hard work, and excellence. Life through the current pandemic times has afforded me the opportunity to learn about and embrace tenets of virtual learning, which will transfer, seamlessly, in this new and exciting role. While much learning has been attained, it is exciting to accept the charge to move to the “next level;” off, we go!
