CHCCS uses GoGuardian to support safe, focused, and purposeful use of district-managed Chromebooks in grades 2–12.
GoGuardian includes several tools that serve different purposes:
- GoGuardian Admin supports district internet filtering and technology management.
- GoGuardian Teacher helps teachers guide and manage Chromebook use during instruction.
- GoGuardian Parent gives families optional information and controls for their child’s district-managed Chromebook. GoGuardian Parent Setup Directions
GoGuardian is one part of the district’s approach to online safety. Internet filtering and classroom monitoring work alongside active supervision, digital citizenship instruction, clear expectations, and family involvement.

GoGuardian Teacher
GoGuardian Teacher is a classroom management tool used by teachers in grades 2–12 during digital learning activities.
During a teacher-created GoGuardian session, teachers may:
- View open browser tabs and active Chromebook screens
- Open approved websites or resources for students
- Close tabs that are unrelated to the lesson
- Limit browsing to selected instructional websites
- Temporarily pause student screens
- Send messages directly to students
- Help students who are having difficulty navigating an activity
Teachers only have access to students assigned to their classes or instructional groups. GoGuardian Teacher sessions are limited to district-designated instructional hours.
CHCCS Expectations for Teachers
When students in grades 2–12 are using district-managed Chromebooks for classroom instruction, teachers are expected to use GoGuardian Teacher when it would support supervision, safety, and student focus.
Teachers should:
- Create sessions that correspond with the students and class being taught
- Use Scenes or other browsing controls when appropriate
- Explain the purpose of the session to students
- Monitor Chromebook activity while also actively supervising the classroom
- Redirect students respectfully when they are off task
- End sessions when the instructional activity has concluded
- Use information from GoGuardian in context rather than relying on it as the only evidence of student behavior
GoGuardian Teacher should support classroom instruction. It does not replace lesson design, active supervision, classroom relationships, or direct communication with students.
What Teachers Can and Cannot See
During an active classroom session, a teacher may see:
- The student’s active browser tab
- Other open tabs in the Chrome browser
- A view of the content displayed in those tabs
- Websites opened during the session
Teachers cannot use GoGuardian to:
- Turn on a student’s camera
- Turn on a student’s microphone
- Listen to conversations
- View files that are not open in the monitored browser
- Monitor other devices connected to the student’s home network
- View activity from personal accounts that are not connected to the student’s CHCCS account or district-managed Chromebook
Students cannot use GoGuardian Teacher to message one another. Teachers may use its messaging feature to communicate directly with students during a classroom session.
GoGuardian Admin and Internet Filtering
GoGuardian Admin is used by authorized district staff to help manage internet access on district-managed Chromebooks.
It allows the district to:
- Apply web-filtering rules
- Block harmful, inappropriate, or non-instructional content
- Review website categories and filtering activity
- Investigate reported safety or security concerns
- Adjust filtering settings based on instructional and safety needs
The district may also use other systems and settings to filter internet access. Filtering rules may differ based on grade level, device type, network, account, or instructional need.
No filtering system can identify or block every inappropriate website or piece of content. Students should report concerning content to a teacher, administrator, school librarian, Digital Learning Coach, or another trusted adult.
GoGuardian Parent
GoGuardian Parent is an optional tool for parents and caregivers of students who use district-managed Chromebooks.
Depending on district settings and the device’s activity, families may be able to:
- Review recent browsing activity
- View commonly visited websites
- Apply additional website restrictions outside school hours
- Pause internet access on the district-managed Chromebook during available after-school periods
Family settings apply in addition to district filtering. Families cannot use GoGuardian Parent to remove or override restrictions established by CHCCS.
GoGuardian Parent controls apply only to the student’s district-managed Chromebook and CHCCS account. The app does not control personal phones, gaming systems, home routers, or other devices.
Setting Up GoGuardian Parent
To access GoGuardian Parent:
- Download GoGuardian Parent from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Open the app and enter the email address listed for you in the district’s student information system.
- Check your email for a verification link or login code.
- Follow the instructions to open and verify the app.
The email address entered in the app must match the parent or caregiver email associated with the student’s district record.
If your email address is incorrect or has changed, contact your school’s data manager before requesting technical assistance.
Understanding GoGuardian Activity Information
GoGuardian activity information can help teachers and families better understand how a district-managed Chromebook is being used. However, it should not be interpreted as an exact measurement of instructional screen time.
For example:
- A tab may remain open even when a student is not actively viewing it.
- A website may support an instructional assignment, independent research, communication, or another school activity.
- Activity reports may include idle or inactive time.
- Students may move among several resources during the same assignment.
- The length of a website session does not show the quality or purpose of the learning experience.
Questions about a specific classroom activity should generally begin with the classroom teacher, who can provide the instructional context.
Student and Family Responsibilities
Students are expected to use district-managed accounts and devices for educational purposes and follow district, school, and classroom expectations.
Students should:
- Follow teacher directions during digital activities
- Use only approved accounts and resources
- Keep passwords private
- Avoid attempts to bypass district filtering
- Report harmful, inappropriate, or incorrectly blocked content
- Use devices in ways that are safe, respectful, and connected to learning
Families can support responsible use by:
- Establishing expectations for device use at home
- Reviewing browsing activity with their child
- Talking about online safety and digital citizenship
- Encouraging breaks and balanced technology habits
- Contacting the school when they have questions about classroom use
Privacy and Student Data
CHCCS reviews digital resources for instructional purpose, privacy, security, and compliance with applicable student privacy requirements.
GoGuardian does not provide teachers or district staff with access to a Chromebook’s camera or microphone through its classroom management tools.
GoGuardian does not provide access to a family’s home Wi-Fi settings, internet router, or other devices connected to the same network.

Qu’est-ce que GoGuardian et quand commencera-t-il à être opérationnel ?

Does GoGuardian work on personal devices?
GoGuardian may apply when a student signs into the Chrome browser with a CHCCS account, depending on the device, browser configuration, and district settings.
Students should use separate Chrome profiles for school and personal accounts. Families who do not want district extensions or settings associated with personal browsing should ensure the student signs out of the CHCCS Chrome profile when schoolwork is complete.

District filtering may continue on district-managed Chromebooks outside school hours. Teacher classroom sessions are limited to district-designated instructional hours (7:30 am - 4:30 pm).
The optional GoGuardian Parent app may provide families with additional controls during district-designated after-school periods (4:30 pm-7:30 am).
