CHCCS uses multiple approaches to support student safety, privacy, and responsible technology use.
These approaches include:
Internet Filtering
District networks and managed devices use internet filtering systems designed to limit access to inappropriate, harmful, or non-instructional content.
No filtering system can identify or block every concerning website or piece of content. Filtering works best when combined with active supervision, clear expectations, digital citizenship instruction, and communication among students, staff, and families.
Classroom Monitoring
GoGuardian Teacher is used in grades 2–12 to help teachers monitor district-managed Chromebooks during instruction, reduce distractions, and support focused technology use.
Teachers may use GoGuardian Teacher to:
- View student Chromebook activity during class
- Direct students to approved instructional resources
- Close distracting or unrelated tabs
- Apply classroom browsing expectations
- Support students who need help navigating digital activities
Classroom monitoring is intended to support instruction and student safety. It does not replace active teacher supervision or clear classroom expectations.
Digital Resource Review
Digital resources used with students are reviewed through the district’s digital resource approval process.
The review considers:
- Instructional purpose
- Grade-level appropriateness
- Student data privacy
- Security practices
- Accessibility
- Terms of service
- Alignment with district systems and instructional priorities
Staff should use district-approved resources when students are expected to create accounts, share information, or submit work.
Student Data Privacy
CHCCS works to protect student information and limit the collection and sharing of student data.
Staff should only share the minimum information necessary for an approved educational purpose. Student information should not be entered into unapproved websites, applications, chatbots, or artificial intelligence tools.
Staff Training and Support
Staff receive guidance and professional learning related to:
- Digital citizenship
- Student data privacy
- Cybersecurity
- Classroom device management
- Responsible artificial intelligence use
- Digital resource approval
- Purposeful and balanced technology use
School librarians and Digital Learning Coaches support schools with instruction, planning, resource selection, and implementation.
