Lucas Paulsen, Principal
Greetings, Culbreth Cougars!
I'm Luke Paulsen, your principal at Culbreth Middle School.
For those new to Chapel Hill, I hail from Iowa (Go Hawkeyes!), studied at St. Olaf College (Um Yah Yah!), and embraced North Carolina as my home for thirteen years (Go Heels!). I hold degrees in Latino Studies, Special Education, School Counseling, and Educational Leadership from UNC. Over 15 years, I've contributed as a teacher, school counselor, and assistant principal in New York City, Alamance Burlington, and Orange County. These diverse settings have shaped my perspective and identity.
An enthusiast of education and sports articles, a trail-riding ex-road biker, and a pancake aficionado, I'm a father of three spirited kids. My education journey started early and blossomed at St. Olaf College. Beyond my principal role, I've been Pippin in 8th grade, a saxophonist in a jazz band, and a holder of intramural championships at St. Olaf.
You might spot me at Culbreth Middle School events (Go Cougars!) or biking around town with my family. Outside of work, my wife Emily and I cherish adventures with our three kids: Teddy (6), Penny (4), and Rudy (2), who'll be cheering for CMS cultural arts and sports this year. Feel free to say hello!
I'm thrilled to continue collaborating with the Cougar family.

Greetings, Cougars!
I'm Tracey Lockhart, proudly serving the Culbreth Cougars as Assistant Principal. My journey began in middle school education, extending to elementary levels.
I hold degrees from North Carolina Central University (Eagle Pride) and University of North Carolina at Greensboro (Go Spartans!). A Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Masters of School Administration were earned at NCCU.
Life's harmony is my belief. Quality moments with family and friends, including my vibrant 95-year-old mother, and my exceptional sons, Evan and Bryce, bring balance. As the 12th of 13 siblings, I cherish my large family. Beyond my role, I indulge in cooking, reading, music, workouts, meditation, and exploring restaurants as a devoted foodie.
With passion and purpose, I'm dedicated to enriching the Cougars community.

Wendy York, Assistant Principal
Greetings,
Embarking on my 24th year in education, I proudly join the Culbreth Family, a journey of growth and leadership. In 2005, High Point University granted me my Bachelor's degree. I've taught at Northeast Randolph Middle School and Siler City Elementary School. For the past decade, I've dedicated myself to CHCCS, nurturing students' academic and behavioral progress while achieving my Master's Degree in School Administration from Western Carolina University in 2019. This path, though challenging, has unveiled the power of collaboration within our school community.
On a personal note, my husband of 34 years is my unwavering support, our son is a Greensboro firefighter, and his nurse wife completes our family, now blessed with two joyful granddaughters.
My professional vision is to foster an inclusive, safe space where students and staff thrive without limits. Together, let's empower our students and make a lasting impact. I'm eager to connect, learn about your children, and collectively shape their brightest futures. Together, as a united village, we will make a difference. Your support is invaluable on this journey.
