Employment Incentives

    • Local Supplements
      • Certified staff receive an 18% local supplement in addition to the appropriate state salary. The supplement is included in the monthly paycheck. This supplement increases with accrued licensure years. See our Salary page for more information. 
    • Salary Advances
      • In August, newly employed teachers may receive a salary advance in the amount of $500, $1000, or $1500. This is an interest-free loan repaid in equal installments through payroll deduction. Salary advances will be available to newly employed teachers during the first week of employment during the start of the school year. Teachers will be eligible for no more than one salary advance during the term of their employment or subsequent re-employment by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools.
    • Housing Assistance
      • Several area apartment complexes offer no deposit and/or a reduced first month's rent for new teachers. Please request additional information from the Human Resources office.  Participating apartment groups include:
        • Summit Properties
        • Autumn Woods
        • University Lake Apartments
        • Applicants should request additional information from the Human Resources office.
      • Newly employed teachers with a clear credit rating will qualify for no deposit for both electricity and water.
    • Banking Services
      • SunTrust offers a free basic or interest checking account for teachers. Bank of America offers several home mortgage plans for teachers. The State Employees Credit Union offers several programs and incentives for teachers.
