She is looking forward to working with students, family, and staff. When she is not at Smith, she is spending time with her three children, her husband, and her sweet, old dog.

Bio: "This is Steve Young's 28th year of counseling. His first eleven were at Northern Durham High School and he came to Smith in 2002. Steve Young was born in Winston Salem but grew up in Massachusetts. He studied psychology at Dartmouth College and moved to Chapel Hill after graduation. He received his M. Ed. from UNC in 1991. When he is not at school he loves to spend time with his wife and dog. Mr. Young is excited about getting to work with another group of 8th graders at Smith and to help work to make their last year at Smith a special and successful one."

Bio: Ms. Bryan is a proud graduate of UNC-G and NCA&T! This is her 19th year working in the NC school system. She initially started out as an Educational Interpreter for Deaf/HH students in Guilford County, and then as a Counselor. This is her 4th year at Smith. She’s a proud mother and grandmother and takes her job seriously. Treating your child the way she wanted her children to be treated has always been her focus when helping students achieve their academic goals and assisting them in their career and social/emotional development.

Bio: This will be Ms. Norris' fifth year working as a counselor at Smith, after completing her counseling internship at Smith. She went to UNC for both undergraduate and graduate school, and she is a huge Tarheel fan. She loves working with students to help ensure they are successful and have a great middle school experience.

She holds a bachelor's of English literature and master's of humanities from UNCG, and completed her academically/intellectually gifted (AIG) studies at Duke University. She is joyfully committed to ensuring that every student has access to advancement, and ways to discover their best, most creative, most curious selves.

Bio: Tina Moore has been the School Social Worker at Smith Middle since the school opened in 2001.
Ms. Moore’s role is to reduce and remove social, emotional, and academic barriers to school success and to support students, families, and teachers / staff.
Ms. Moore started her career in public health before making the move to the school system.

She completed her graduate studies in School Psychology at James Madison University in Virginia. Her role involves supporting students with different learning needs in the Exceptional Children’s Program, and she is passionate about providing inclusive services. She also facilitates social and emotional interventions for all students and speaks Spanish. When not at work, she enjoys being silly and having adventures with her three children (10, 8, and 3) and husband.

Bio: My name is Melissa Monago. I am a School Counseling student at UNC Chapel Hill. I recently finished my undergraduate at UNC Chapel Hill, and love being a Tarheel! I like to swim and go hiking, and spend a lot of time outdoors. I am so excited to work with students this year and become part of the Smith Middle School Family.
