Debbie Ellis

Distance Learning Coordinator & Credit Recovery Program
Ms. Ellis has lived in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area since 1980. Prior to working in CHCCS, she taught Economics at Elon University and NC State, where she developed an interest in Agricultural Economics. She also did consulting work for small agribusinesses and even went to work on a Hosta farm for a few years.
In 2003, she was hired at Chapel Hill High School to run the Math Lab. In 2013, she moved to East Chapel Hill to become the Online Learning Facilitator where she helps students navigate online classes.  She also runs the school's Credit Recovery Program where she feels she has the most direct and postive impact on students. She is very proud of how successful East is at graduating at-risk students.
In her spare time she loves to visit the beach and is always up for a road trip.  She has an adult son Sam who just moved back to NC, along with his fiance. Ms. Ellis is looking forward to their upcoming marriage and hopefully becoming  a grandmother in the not too distant future.
