eBooks and eAudiobooks
Getting to the library may be difficult for some students. That's where these resources can come in handy. You can find our complete list of eBook and eAudiobook collections here.
African-American poetry through Chadwyck-Healey Literature Collections on NC LIVE. Poems from 1750-1900 including Lucy Terry Prince, Phillis Wheatley, Jupiter Hammon, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and more.
Libby (via OverDrive), provides access to thousands of popular books. Download to any device. If something is already checked out, put it on hold, and you'll be notified when it's ready.Note: The Orange County Public Library has a different Libby (OverDrive) collection from the one found at the Chapel Hill Public Library, so make sure to use them both!
With hoopla, there are no holds. Instead you have 24/7 access to books, magazines, comics and more. Usually, you are limited to 3 check outs/month. But right now, hoopla is offering bonus borrows. More titles and no cap on checkouts.
NC LIVE's HomeGrown. Consisting of more than 4,400 locally-published ebook titles, the collection includes titles from North Carolina publishers like Algonquin Books, CrossRoad Press, UNC Press, and more. There are no holds, no checkout limits, and no wait lists.
NC Kids Digital Library is a stand alone collection that provides access to children's and teen eBooks, eAudiobooks, and videos. Think of it as Libby for kids plus videos.

- The Orange County Public Library has a different Libby (OverDrive) collection from the one found at the Chapel Hill Public Library. You can use them both!
- To access any of these resources, your student will need their library account number. They may know this as their student ID or lunch number.
- Staff, teachers and administrators, visit our Educator page to see how you can borrow these resources, too.
- For children and families who need internet access, Orange County Government has a map of all public WiFi locations. Drop by, connect -- no password needed! -- and download eBooks and eAudiobooks to your device.
