The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is dedicated to creating teaching and learning environments that honor the dignity of each student while providing access to a challenging, diverse, culturally relevant, standards-aligned curriculum that is student-centered and will propel their educational growth and achievement. Within our world-class programs and rigorous academic options, each student is supported in realizing their aspirations for life, career, and college.
From award-winning arts programs and nationally recognized dual language opportunities to athletics, dual college enrollment, and career and technical education certification offerings, CHCCS students are encouraged to discover and explore their passions alongside an exceptional team of highly qualified educators who make learning in CHCCS second to none.
The CHCCS Instructional Blueprint maps out the approach to teaching and learning across the district to ensure learning is fully accessible to each student and to eliminate the predictability of achievement outcomes based on social and cultural factors such as race, family income, language proficiency, and special education status.
Teachers, school principals, and district curriculum leaders are guided by the following questions when designing instruction and academic programming.
- What do we want students to know and be able to do?
- How will we help our students learn?
- How will we know students are learning?
- How will we respond when students don’t learn?
- How will we respond when students already know the content?
We expect CHCCS students to master the NC Standard Course of Study and exhibit the characteristics outlined in the Portrait of a Graduate - adaptable, ethical, and empathetic graduates who are powerful communicators, critical thinkers, and effective collaborators.
Through the ongoing review of our curriculum, student-centered professional learning experiences for educators, and strong connections with families and caregivers, we can ensure CHCCS students experience the world-class education they deserve.
From here, unlimited possibilities!
