Mr. Jesse Casey


Mr. Jesse Casey joined East as the Principal in the 22/23 school year.  Before coming to East, Mr. Casey was the Principal of The Campus of Virginia Randolph for 9 years in Henrico County, Virginia.  Prior to this, he was an Associate and Assistant Principal at the middle school level in Henrico. Mr. Casey began his educational career teaching Social Studies and coaching several sports in Chesapeake, VA.  The theme for the 23/24 school year is to "Close the Gap" so that all of our students can succeed. 

Mr. Casey is a native North Carolinian. He was born in Charlotte and spent his early childhood there.  He is blessed to have 5 children with his beautiful wife, along with their red doberman, Saint. In his free time he enjoys cycling, sports, spending time with his family and going to great restaurants with his wife.

Ms. Tiffany Best

Associate Principal

Ms. Best has been in the educational field for 20 years. Prior to returning CHCCS, she was a District MTSS Specialist for Durham Public Schools for 5 years. In addition, she served as the Positive Behavior Support Specialist in CHCCS for 2 years and as an Assistant Principal in Burlington, NC for 3 years.  Early in her career, she taught for 9 years as a High School English Teacher both in the alternative and traditional school settings.  
Ms. Best is a native of Durham, NC.  She is blessed with a beautiful son, Mr. Cooper.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her son, binge watching her favorite shows, shopping, brunching with friends, attending concerts, and traveling.

Mr. Brandon Patterson

Assistant Principal

Quad A, 11th grade & 9th H-O


Mr. Patterson joined ECHHS in July of 2020. Prior to his move to the district, he served as a school administrator at the elementary, middle, and high school level in Wake or Durham County for 8 years. In addition, for 11 years, he provided leadership in several areas at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), including the NC Teacher and Principal of the Year programs and federal grant programs Title I, Title II, and 21st Century Community Learning Centers. 

Mr. Patterson is a native of Durham, and he and his beautiful wife of 25 years, Gerrelyn, have 3 daughters, one in college and twins in high school.  He enjoys spending time with his family, watching movies, reading an occasional book, and cheering for Carolina basketball.

Ms. Alicia Curtis

Assistant Principal of Instruction

Ms. Curtis began her career as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at UNC Hospitals and then transitioned to Alamance-Burlington School System where she spent eight years teaching Honors and AP Chemistry. She transitioned to an instructional coaching role for three years before earning her Masters in School Administration from UNC-CH. 

She and her husband, Brooks, are the parents of three furry children - a pug named Georgia and two cats, Dodger and Eleanor.  In her free time, Alicia enjoys running and weight training as well as reading, watching TV and spending time with friends and family. Her leading passion is creating a safe, trusting space for students to explore and become their very best. She hopes to  ensure each individual student has the opportunity to find the best path for them and offer support as they cross the graduation stage and prepare for the next adventure!

Ms. Jeriel Champion

Ms. Champion joined East as an Assistant Principal in the 22/23 academic school year. Before this, she was a Mathematics Teacher/Curriculum Writer for Henrico County Public Schools in Richmond, VA for 10 years. She is a passionate, student-centered educator continually seeking to improve learning and school culture.
Ms. Champion enjoys exploring music venues and trying new foods at local restaurants.
