Squids Restaurant and Oyster Bar isn’t normally known for its teeming early morning crowds, but on Friday, April 26, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools teachers and staff enjoyed a full, hot breakfast at the restaurant before they headed off to their classrooms and offices.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools was recently recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) as one of the 2019 Best Communities for Music Education in the country, one of only three districts in North Carolina to win the award. For parents, students and community members who attend the numerous CHCCS musical performances throughout the year, the honor should come as no surprise.
The original plan had been to celebrate biliteracy March 15 in a community-wide event on the front field at Lincoln Center. Then the rains came, yet Building Bridges, a showcase of CHCCS dual language programs, triumphed with Plan B, filling the gym at Phoenix Academy High School.

This year’s annual 5K Race for Education took place on March 16, with more than 1,100 runners, walkers and riders taking off from UNC’s McCorkle Place. A great Public School Foundation community builder and major fundraiser to support the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, the 5K Race showcased an exciting new collaboration with the non-profit organization, Ainsley's Angels.
