CHS Freshman Academy Overview and Welcome

  • The Freshman Academy is a comprehensive freshman transition program for all first-time 9th graders. Each freshman is assigned to a Freshman Academy “team” of four teachers for their English, Biology, World History, and Health & Physical Education courses.  Each teaching team serves approximately 120 students.  There is also an assigned 9th grade Assistant Principal and school counselor.

Please utilize the links to your left (desktop) or the dropdown above (mobile) to navigate our section of the school website.

We encourage new-to-high-school families to also browse the Student Services section of our website and the district's CHCCS Parent Handbook.

Important Dates

  • Please view the CHCCS Calendars and the CHS Calendar to note the most up-to-date events and information, from site events at CHS, to holidays and teacher workdays, to delayed openings and parent conference nights, to end-of-academic-quarter dates (after which report cards are issued).

Typical events germane to our Freshman Academy:

    • "HS 101" was implemented post-pandemic as an additional, optional opportunity to help our newest Jaguars become familiar with Carrboro High School (CHS) and learn about strategies they can use to be successful high school students. It is usually a two-day session, with a virtual option as well, during the first few weeks of August.
    • The Friday in August before the first week of school - Freshman and New-to-Carrboro Orientation event for students
    • An evening during the first month of school - Fall Open House
    • February-March - Districtwide Gearing Up for High School event for Rising 9th families + our own Carrboro HS Curriculum Fair + registration visits to feeder middle schools
